Reuven Carlyle and Noel Frame

Legislative Session Update

Events

Two of our state legislators, Senator Reuven Carlyle and Representative Noel Frame,  will present a legislative update at the 36th District Democrats’ March membership meeting.   Carlyle and Frame will provide an overview of the 2016 regular session, and they will discuss what remains for the special session.

Senator Reuven Carlyle is a Queen Anne resident.  A central focus of his work in the legislature has been fighting for tax reform and to fully fund the state’s paramount duty of public education.  He sponsored major legislation to reform higher education finance and improve the educational success of foster youth. He also has been the prime sponsor of legislation each year to abolish the death penalty and replace the policy with life in prison without the possibility of parole.  Last session, he helped lead the Seattle Legislative delegation to secure $25 million in the capital budget to address Seattle Public School overcrowding. He and his wife Wendy Carlyle, M.D., have four children in Seattle schools.

Representative Noel Frame is a Greenwood resident.  She is a long-standing supporter of children, education, and mental health awareness.  As a progressive organizer, communications specialist, and public speaker, she has been an outspoken advocate for improved facilities and conditions for Washington students.  A former foster parent, she has been a vocal supporter of increased awareness of mental health issues and the need for increased funding for our state’s social safety net.
